In 2008, early voting was 79% of turnout in CO & 43% in the states that matter [w/ GOTV links]

Today, early voting kicks off in Colorado, where it accounted for 79% of votes in 2008. Early voting also starts today in Wisconsin, where it accounted for 21% of votes in 2008.  Voting continues in Ohio, Iowa, Nevada and North Carolina (and most counties in Florida through in-person absentee ballots).

So early voting is now on-going in 7 of 9 swing states. I crunched the numbers, and combining the turnout in 2008 for these 7 states, early voting accounted for 48% of votes cast. That's right: 48% of votes cast (see below: top section).

In '08, in the 9 states that matter including Virginia and New Hampshire, 43% of votes were cast in early voting (see bottom section). VA and NH don't have early voting, though VA has in person absentee voting if you have a commute, work, etc.
